
The city of Vernon is situated in the south-central region of BC. The city got its name from the previous BC MLA, Forbes George Vernon. He helped establish the famous Coldstream Ranch. On December 30, year 1892, the City of Vernon was incorporated. In the area referred to as Greater Vernon, or the metropolitan region, the population is 55,418, whereas the City of Vernon has a population of 35,944. People who reside here are referred to as "Vernonites."
The city of Vernon is well-known for its lakes and its beaches during summertime and its hockey and its skiing in wintertime. It is considered a year-round tourist destination. Numerous individuals from Vancouver and Calgary rely on it as a weekend get-away. Amongst the major events in the summer that the city of Vernon hosts is a huge Slo-Pitch tournament.
